Our Family Christmas 2009
These were taken Christmas Eve after the Christmas Eve service. Pretty good smiles for 12:30 am!
Hondurans say that Christmas is the 24th. But what they do is start celebrating in the late evening on the 24th and continue into the early morning hours of the 25th. Then everything is closed on the 25th because everyone is sleeping from partying all night. It’s also very traditional to have a service with a big meal. One thing that is frustrating to us is that the churches don’t seem to know the Christmas carols in the hymnbook. So, this year we suggested that they learn some and then proceeded to teach them the Christmas songs such as Joy to the World, Silent Night, etc.
Enjoying dinner – rice, chicken, potato salad, tamales. I took 2 big pans of scalloped potatoes, and 3 cakes and didn’t come home with a crumb. They were “fighting” over who was going to take home the little bit of scalloped potatoes that were left over.
Some of Hannah’s best friends – Thelma and Merary Miranda
These 2 fellows just happened to dress alike – Steve and Luis Miranda (president of the ICHA work here in Honduras)
The Christmas story never grows old! (Although Hannah told me after Sunday School today that if she hears the Mary and Joseph story one more time she is going to turn into Joseph. Ha-ha)
Hannah thanking Jesus for Christmas and Daniel trying hard to close to close his eyes.
